Dreams, Rest and Motion ‘mirrors the sensations of sleep and dreams, and explores different kinds of silence, motion and the gaining of momentum. The music often has dream-like qualities, most notably at the beginning and end, and there are moments where the pulse suddenly ‘rests’, creating different atmospheres in the silence.’
Echoes imitating electronic delay, syncopations, improvisatory elements, rich harmonies, percussive effects are all utilised by Ryan to give the piece its unique and engaging style.
Dreams, Rest and Motion was commissioned by the Dutch guitar duo Duolisme and first performed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2007.
